Chapter - Ridgeland High School
Ridgeland High School FCCLA chapter took action in their, Backpack Blessing project in collaboration with the YMCA to help reduce the fear students face going home to empty pantries. Their project started with the students creating Holiday cards that would be distributed with the bags given to students over the holiday break. However, their involvement didn’t stop there. FCCLA students helped package 1,000 food bags for Christmas break. Working after school hours, students would form assembly- lines ensuring that each bag was packed with care. While participating in this project members were also able to interact with YMCA volunteers and local leaders, helping them further their connections within their community.
With just six dedicated members, their project reached over 500 students. And with their project being highlighted through several social media platforms and even their superintendents' newsletter, they were able to touch nearly 20,000 people, showcasing how FCCLA members are making a real difference.
Through this project, members were not only able to provide to their community but also promote FCCLA and Family and Consumer Science, share information about FCCLA, strengthen their community skills, and learn the importance of time management while working efficiently. Ridgeland High Schools FCCLA’s Backpack Blessing benefitted people in their community facing food insecurity while also strengthening their chapter as a whole.
