National FCCLA Competitions

Through participation in Competitive Events, FCCLA members acquire industry insights and employable skills required to thrive in the 21st Century. Members can select from over 50 Competitive Events that employ skills and knowledge learned through Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) education. Competing on regional/district, state, and national levels in Competitive Events enables members to explore Career Pathways and address significant personal, work, and societal issues. National FCCLA Competitive Events

Through FCCLA Competitive Events, members gain industry insights and employable skills for the 21st century. With over 50 events to choose from, students apply FCS education to compete at regional, state, and national levels, exploring Career Pathways and addressing key issues.

These events align with FCCLA's mission, helping members develop skills in character, critical thinking, communication, practical knowledge, and career preparation. Participation equips students for life after high school, supporting their success in various roles.

This three-round team competition tests FCCLA members’ knowledge in the six content areas:  

  1. Personal Finance

  2. Consumer Rights & Responsibilities 

  3. Technology 

  4. Health & Safety 

  5. Environment 

  6. FCCLA Knowledge

Members will demonstrate skills learned in their FCS courses and through their involvement in FCCLA by taking one of many online challenge tests covering state and national FCS standards.

Members will use event criteria to demonstrate skills learned in their FCS courses and through their involvement in FCCLA. These events may serve as an introduction to FCCLA's competitive events and require a shorter time commitment than STAR Events projects.

Students Taking Action with Recognition (STAR) Events are competitive events where members compete at regional, state, and national levels. These events recognize proficiency in projects, leadership, and career preparation. Students can compete individually or as a team in over 30 STAR Events, demonstrating their skills in identifying issues, researching topics, and implementing projects for positive change.

The FCCLA/Knowledge Matters Virtual Business Challenges (Personal Finance and Fashion) encourage FCCLA members to test their personal finance or fashion management skills! The Virtual Business Challenge focuses on different concepts found within the simulation.
