Providing Childcare for Hispanic Parents Night

Chapter -  R.W. Johnson High School

The Language Arts teachers at our school established a monthly Hispanic Parent Engagement night, three years ago. This served as a way to increase parent involvement at the high school level. The childcare offered in the first two years included a supervised movie in one of the teacher’s classrooms. This was adequate but the behavior was hard to manage. Our FCCLA chapter volunteered to provide childcare for these events in the Early Childhood classroom. This was our first major activity. The resource of the use of the classroom was invaluable. The department is Industry Certified and already has a play kitchen, sand and water table, and many other resources. This collaboration between the FACS department and the Language Arts department has become a great partnership. #region2
